Introducing our Monthly Lamrim Meditation Calendar!
What is this?
This calendar is an invitation to meditate together as a community. Each day, everyone using this calendar contemplates the same topic — so we can share experiences, support each other, and deepen our understanding together. The calendar follows the same sequence of meditations that are covered in our Meditation Toolkit class (Saturdays 9–10am).
What is Lamrim?
Lamrim means "stages of the path to enlightenment" — a structured program of meditations that trains the mind progressively, from appreciating this precious life, through developing compassion for all living beings, to the wisdom that perceives the true nature of reality. The 15 meditations move through three levels: Initial Scope (developing the foundations of a spiritual life), Middling Scope (developing renunciation — the wish for liberation from suffering), and Great Scope (developing bodhichitta — the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings).
How do I use this calendar?
Find today's date — that's your meditation. Each topic has an "object of meditation," the essential insight to hold in your mind. The 15 topics cycle twice per month (days 1–15, then 16–30); on the 31st, choose whichever feels most meaningful. No experience necessary — just start where the calendar says. You are warmly invited to explore The Mirror of Dharma with Additions for the full contemplations and purpose behind each meditation — this calendar is a companion to the book, not a replacement.
Why 15 meditations?
This calendar follows The Mirror of Dharma with Additions by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. You may also encounter a 21-meditation Lamrim cycle in The New Meditation Handbook — same path, different organization. Both are complete programs for training the mind.
Do you have a Whatsapp group for this?
So glad you asked! We absolutely do and you can find it here.
Where can I learn more?
The Mirror of Dharma with Additions is available at the center bookstore or at tharpa.com — or ask a teacher or your Sangha friends! Also our Meditation Toolkit class (Saturdays 9–10am) is specifically devoted to Lamrim practice.
